THE SERVANTHOOD OF THE INCARNATE CHRIST Communion and Installation Service
I. JESUS LOVED HIS OWN TO THE END
(John 13:1)
John begins this section by anchoring everything in love:
“Having loved His own who were in the world, He loved them to the end.”
II. JESUS CLEANSED HIS OWN BEFORE HE CALLED
THEM TO SERVE
(John 13:6–11)
When Jesus begins to wash the disciples’ feet, Peter objects.
And in that exchange, Jesus teaches something essential.
III. JESUS GAVE HIS OWN AN EXAMPLE, NOT A
CEREMONY
(John 13:12–17)
Jesus is not testing their memory—He is pressing their understanding.
What He has done is meant to shape how they live, lead, and serve one another.
So Jesus does not leave the meaning of His action open to interpretation.
He explains it plainly, in His own words:
“I have given you an example, that you also should do just as I have done to you.”
