Exodus 3: A Reluctant Deliverer — A Resolute God Pt 7
God’s Reassurance Comes by Way of a Promise
(Exodus 3:11-12)
--
11 But Moses said to God, “Who am I, that I should go to Pharaoh, and that I should bring the sons of Israel out of Egypt?”
12 And He said, “Certainly I will be with you, and this shall be the sign to you that it is I who have sent you: when you have brought the people out of Egypt, you shall worship God at this mountain.”

When obedience becomes costly, the question changes.
The calling stays the same - only the cost becomes clear.
--
Like Volunteers
At first: “Here I am” (easy when the need is general)
Then the details come:
• It’s not just helping — it’s leading
• It’s not just showing up — it’s sacrifice
• It’s not just a moment — it’s a commitment
Suddenly: “Maybe I’m not the right one.”
Understanding Moses’ Hesitation
Standing barefoot before the burning bush…
hearing God’s voice…
told to confront the most powerful ruler on earth.

Three Things Happening in Moses (and in Us)
++1. Self-Doubt
++2. Feelings of Inadequacy
++3. A Shift in Focus
--
1. Self-Doubt
++Forty years earlier Moses tried in his own strength… and failed.
++Now God is sending him back to the exact same place.
++Failure can become the master of your future.
--
2. Feelings of Inadequacy
++Moses is now an 80-year-old shepherd
++no army,
++no platform,
++no influence.
++Just a staff and a past.
--
We take inventory of what we don’t have
instead of trusting what God supplies.
--
3. A Shift in Focus
“Who am I… that I should go… that I should bring…”
(Three “I’s” thrown at God)
--
A Critical Warning - False Humility
--
What starts as fear often disguises itself as humility:
++• “I’m not the right person”
++• “Someone else would be better”
++• “I’ll just stay in the background”
++True humility is not thinking less of yourself —
it is obeying God regardless of yourself.
--
The Turning Point: God’s Response
++Moses hesitates.
++God does not correct, rebuke, or shame him.
++Instead, the holy God responds with compassion.
++He does not demand strength — He supplies His presence.
--
God’s Promise
“Certainly I will be with you.”
God doesn’t say: “Moses, you’re stronger than you think.”
He says: “I will be with you.”
The answer to human inadequacy is never human ability
it is the presence of God.
--
The Sign God Gives
“When you have brought the people out, you shall worship God at this mountain.”
++Not a sign for now — a sign for later.
++Obey before you see the proof.
++Clarity comes after obedience, never before.
--
God’s Ultimate Goal
++Not just freedom from Pharaoh
but freedom for worship.
++From bondage… to being with Him.
++God’s goal is fellowship with you.
--
From Promise to Person
++Moses received the promise: “I will be with you.”
++We receive it as a Person Jesus Christ.
Immanuel “God with us.”
--
What God promised in Exodus, He fulfilled in Christ.
--
++Moses asked: “Who am I?”
God answered: “I will be with you.”
++The one thing you need is not more of you
it is more of Him.
++Your past says, “You’ve failed.”
++Your heart says, “You’re not enough.”
++God says: “I will be with you.”
