++LITURGY: “The work of the people”

Context:   “The work of religious people”

Basically:  "The Structure or Itinerary that we

           follow for our Worship Services."

--

Colossians 3:16 Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns

The Purpose of “Church Liturgy” is to:

++-Unify the church together before Christ

++-Help aid and assist the church in worship,

++-To train the heart and mind in the truth, and to

++-Remind the church family, of the story of the gospel embodied week after week

       Two Broad Styles of Liturgy

     Traditional:

     Highly structured,

     "Hymns, written prayers, robes"

     "Examples: Lutheran, Anglican, Catholic, Presbyterian"

     Contemporary:

     More informally structured

     "Spontaneous prayer, varied music"

"Examples: Baptist, Non-denominational, Calvary Chapel, etc."

  Spurgeon Quote:

"If you make doctrine the main thing, you are very likely to grow narrowminded. If you make your own experience the main thing,

you will become gloomy and critical of others. If you make ordinances the main thing, you will be apt to grow merely

  formal.

But you can never make too much of the living Christ Jesus...

Doctrines and ordinances (and I would add: “Liturgies”) are the planets,

but Christ is the sun. Get to love Him best of all.”
