Caring for the Heart California is a Christian, Biblically based counseling ministry. This is a ministry both Dr. Dan and Connie Bohannon have been involved in since 2012.
They were trained and certified in the Caring for the Heart method of counseling by John Regier at the Colorado Springs Headquarters.
Every person has some emotional pain in their lives; we can’t escape it due to our sinful nature and living in a sinful, fallen world.
The extent of emotional pain can run the gamut from mild to severe. This pain causes us to “lock up” and affects how we respond to ourselves and others in our lives.

Why are people angry, fearful, controlling, submissive, depressed, emotionally detached, untrusting, living with feelings of rejection, into pornography or are excessively impulsive? The Caring for the Heart method of counseling can give you answers to these questions.
We become emotionally damaged in one of two ways: by receiving something we should never have received (i.e. abuse, criticism, pressure to perform, rejection, etc.) or by not receiving something we should have (i.e. emotional connections, affirmation, value, etc.).
Caring for the Heart counseling seeks to identify a person’s core emotional pain and teach their spouse (in the case of a married couple) how to care for the person’s heart at the point of that pain. Our method seeks to deal with the heart and not solely the head.
The process of being counseled is as follows:
- After initially contacting us we will mail you a packet of paperwork to be filled out.
- Included in the packet there will be two tests to be taken, the Taylor Johnson Temperament Analysis Profile and CFTH online Personal Evaluation.
- After you complete all the forms and take the test, mail the packet back to us and we will schedule the time for counseling.
- The counseling will last for 3 consecutive days: Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. with a break for lunch.
